Mark R. McMackin is a Partner at Ricketts, Harris LLP and has a broad, vibrant real estate and business practice. His efforts focus primarily in the areas of business law and real estate law. For the most part, Mark’s client base is comprised of closely held, owner-operated companies ranging from family owned businesses to substantial multi jurisdictional operations. He is actively involved in day-to-day issues that arise in competitive, growing business enterprises as well as managing complex business transactions associated with growth. He is connected with investors, early stage companies on a growth curve as well as the community of established entrepreneurial operations.

Mark’s focus in real estate law relates to the purchase, sale, leasing and financing of commercial and industrial properties, co-operative, co-ownership, subdivision development and multi-unit residential buildings with both public and private sectors clients. He acts for a number of prominent investors and real estate developers, insurers, lenders and owners both in Canada and abroad.

Mark is considered one of the foremost lawyers in Canada involved in condominium conversions and is skilled in the process of new build developments as well as management and corporate governance once the condominium is established. Mark has been the legal leverage point with communities across the Ontario, where unused warehouses, factories, office buildings and even redundant hospitals, schools and religious edifices have and are being transformed into residences, commercial and industrial workspaces.

Mark has a talent for facilitating deal making. He has a resourceful way of bringing people together – clients and others - to initiate productive deals, a number of which have extended beyond Canadian borders to the USA, the Arab Emirates and China. With his extensive multinational business contacts, Mark acts as a intermediary for licensing Canadian talent and invention to foreign countries. Additionally, he assists individuals and corporations in buying or selling businesses, business divisions or significant assets. He helps clients create and structure businesses, particularly dealing with ownership relationships, commercial relationships, financing and outsourcing. When the business or a specific relationship deteriorates, Mark advises on the best course of action for recovery.

Mark is an astute businessman and lawyer. Before qualifying as a lawyer, he started up and ran a successful telecommunications company as well as participated in several start up ventures.
