Jay Josefo Appointed to the National Research Council Canada

OTTAWA, June 23, 2009 — The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for the National Research Council Canada (NRC), today announced the appointment of Mr. Jay Josefo to the Council.

“I am pleased to welcome Mr. Josefo to the NRC,” said Minister Clement. “Mr. Josefo's professional experience will be an asset to the NRC's work in advancing innovation, research and development in Canada.”

Mr. Josefo is a lawyer practicing in all areas of labour and employment law, occupational health and safety, human rights and civil litigation.  He is also the Vice-Chair of the Ontario Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal (WSIAT).

Mr. Josefo has been involved in numerous organisations. He was a member of the Board of Directors of East York Access Centre for citizens in need of community assistance, from 1999 to 2004. Previously, he was the founding and organizing Chairman of the joint Tenant-Staff Working Committee of Cityhome and Member of the Executive Committee of the Coalition of Cityhome Tenants from 1988-1990.

Mr. Josefo holds a L.L.B. & B.C.L. (Honours) as well as a BA (Honours) in Political Science from McGill University.
