As Counsel to the firm focusing on Human Resources issues, Jay Josefo firmly believes “an answer can always be found to even the knottiest HR issue.”
While an accomplished litigator before both judges and tribunals, Jay prefers to negotiate rather than confront. Whether representing an employer or an employee, his continuing service as a Vice Chair of the Ontario Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal, a pre-eminent quasi-judicial body in the province and the final decision-making body for issues involving worker's compensation, puts him in a unique position to understand both sides of a dispute while advocating fiercely for his client.
In addition to his 10-year service with the tribunal, Jay was appointed to the Council of the National Research Council and serves on its HR Committee.
Jay’s work in the community also gives him valuable insight into how the law affects people. He has served on the board of a non-profit community care organisation that helps seniors, and was an elected public school board trustee.
“The workplace is rife with potential problems,” Jay observes, “and understanding the concerns of both sides helps me represent my clients in a unique yet forceful way. I know from experience where the ‘bendable points’ are on both side of a dispute, and where we’ll run into a brick wall.
“This means I am in a unique position to find solutions and, when unavoidable, how to be a strong advocate in court,” he states.
