Kim is our Family Law Group Coordinator. If you’re looking to contact one of our lawyers for a consultation, second opinion, or to act for you in a family law matter, she’s the person to call. She’ll speak with you and help connect you to the lawyer most appropriate for your needs. She joined Ricketts Harris LLP in May, 2010, bringing 26 years of practical family law clerk experience to our firm and clients. She is also very familiar with the procedures involved in real estate transactions.
Kim’s role is to gather information regarding a client’s personal and financial situation, assist clients in the completion of financial documents, prepare the first draft of court documents, correspondence and agreements, schedule court appearances, and the general organization of documents for the lawyer preparing to go to court or meetings. Kim is often more accessible than the lawyer and can be very helpful in answering questions regarding the family law process, including court procedure, scheduling meetings, obtaining information to pass along to the lawyer and just generally being available to listen if required.
Kim is extremely intuitive to the unique emotional needs of family law clients. She is sympathetic and understanding about how difficult the process of separation and divorce can be. She will attempt to assist clients in working through the process with as little stress as possible.
She is very familiar with all rules and legislation relating to family law. She is very proficient in the use of the DIVORCEmate software, having been involved in several feedback workshops during the overhaul of that program in the summer and fall of 2009. She attends several family law seminars each year to stay on top of the latest developments in the law. She is also a regular member of the weekly family law group meetings the firm holds to review our files and developments in the field of family law.
Kim has enjoyed serving on her prior firm’s social committee and as chair and organizer of the family law group’s monthly meetings.
She is a member of the Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario.
