Bob acts as a personal legal advisor and sounding board for clients who are generally business owners or senior managers. Also, he is Canadian Counsel for a large US industrial and commercial developer as well as a TSX-listed hotel company.
Bob inspires confidence by paying close attention to building long-term working relationships and providing personal service coupled with sound legal skills to assist clients in dealing with ongoing opportunities and challenges.
“To me, the great satisfaction is working alongside clients to help them grow their business,” Bob says. “That means not just knowing the legal requirements but helping clients use them in practical ways to achieve their objectives.”
So in addition to being an experienced commercial lawyer, Bob offers clients his business insight. He is a perceptive negotiator who uses common sense in deal-making and, as a result, is instrumental in successful acquisitions, divestitures, restructurings, financings, real estate deals, succession planning, joint ventures and family law disputes for clients.
His ability to think strategically and having keen insight into human dynamics are the underpinnings of his legal practice. With his broad perspective and experience, he can effectively wrap seemingly disparate pieces of a complicated scenario together to provide clarity, focus and resolution.
“It’s often helpful for an owner or senior executive to have someone who’s intimately familiar with the business but outside the company to see the bigger picture and tie everything together,” Bob observes.
Bob sits on the board of the Northampton Group Inc., a publicly traded hotel company. He is also the firm’s Managing Partner.
He received his Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Western Ontario.
