A partner at the firm, Tracy’s litigation practice ranges from alternative dispute resolution and practical problem solving to effective trial and Appeals Court advocacy for clients.

“I’ve always taken a sensible and imaginative strategic approach to my practice,” Tracy says, “which means developing an understanding of the human dynamics involved whether it’s my client, the opposition or the court.”

He is particularly adept at unwinding complex and unusual matters. Tracy has a unique ability to modify opinions, stimulate productive discussion and effectively manage outcome strategies.

“Because of the costs, risks and delay, many clients prefer avoiding litigation as a means of resolving disagreements,” Tracy observes.

One of his strengths is an ability to reduce very complicated concepts and legal issues to clear, plain language – important for a client and critical when arguing before a judge or jury. Tracy is realistic yet extremely creative in developing a strategy for litigation.

Tracy has initiated some unique, ground-breaking litigation, setting a precedent for other lawyers to follow. His practice attracts individuals as well as business owners from across all industry sectors that are either in personal or business-related disputes where the financial stakes are particularly high. He’s also influenced creating and amending Provincial legislation and policies.

He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1983 and is accepted as an expert in Commercial Litigation in both the Superior Court of Ontario and Federal Court in the United States. Always eager to help the next generation of young lawyers, he is a practice instructor and mentor for the Advocates’ Society

Tracy has a varied and exciting life beyond law. In addition to planning an African safari, he is a licensed scuba diver and was an accomplished skydiver. Tracy is an avid canoer and camper, taking trips with Canadian Outward Bound down the Nahanee River in the Northwest Territories and other adventures in Northern Ontario. He is a certified athletic coach and, for many years, engaged in competitive rowing at a Masters level including trips to England, Germany and the World Masters Rowing Competition in Spain.

He was graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School.
